What this site collects, and what it does not.
Material Signal does not use advertising or cross-site tracking. This notice explains inquiry submissions, site analytics, Workspace sessions, and the providers that process them.
Last updated September 16, 2026.
Who is responsible
Material Signal LLC (“Material Signal”), a Wyoming limited liability company, operates https://materialsignal.co and is responsible for the handling described here. Questions, requests, and corrections go to scott@materialsignal.co.
The inquiry form
The form on the contact page requires your name, email address, and a description of the problem you are trying to solve. You may also provide your company, role, relevant data or systems, desired outcome, target timeline, whether a budget has been set, and how you found Material Signal.
What you submit is emailed to Material Signal so that the inquiry can be answered. It is not written to a database, and this site has no database of its own. Resend processes the message in transit and keeps its own delivery logs; Google Workspace hosts Material Signal’s inbox, where the message is retained as needed to handle the inquiry. You may ask for it to be deleted sooner.
Please do not send confidential, personal, or client data through the form. Email is not a secure channel, and the first conversation does not need your data — only a description of the problem. Engagement data is handled under the engagement’s own contract and security terms, not under this notice.
Submissions are checked by Vercel BotID before they are sent, which inspects the request to establish that it came from a person rather than an automated client. It is there to keep the inbox usable and is not used to profile anyone.
Analytics, and the choice you are offered
Two things measure this site, and they are not the same. Vercel Web Analytics provides aggregate traffic measurement without cookies. Browser-side product analytics uses PostHog and starts only if you choose Allow on the banner.
If you decline, the browser-side PostHog library is not initialized and no PostHog browser events or cookies are created for your visit. Your choice is stored in your browser’s local storage under analytics-consent so you are not asked again. Clearing your browser storage clears it, and the banner returns.
A successful inquiry also sends one anonymous server-side event to PostHog so Material Signal can count form submissions. That event contains no email address, company, user identifier, or person profile and is sent regardless of the browser analytics choice.
Hosting and security
The site is hosted by Vercel. Like any web host, Vercel processes the technical details of a request — IP address, browser and device type, the page requested, timestamps — in order to serve the page and to protect the service from abuse. The site sets strict transport security, frame and content-type protections, and a referrer policy that stops full URLs leaking to other sites.
Material Signal Workspace
The Workspace is Material Signal’s authenticated application. It is not a public surface; access is granted by invitation. Signing in stores one cookie, ms_portal_session, which holds the session token for the application’s runtime. It is httpOnly, so page scripts cannot read it; it is signed, so a modified cookie is rejected; it is sent only to this site; and it expires after eight hours. Signing out deletes it.
Data inside the application belongs to the organization it was created under, is held in the runtime’s database rather than on this site, and is covered by the engagement or subscription terms that apply to it.
The demonstration data is invented
Every dataset behind the work published on this site is synthetic and generated from a seed. Halbrook Industrial Supply does not exist, and the published demonstration datasets and documents contain no client data. The people, accounts, and transactions in the demonstrations are not real people, accounts, or transactions.
What is never done
No advertising or cross-site tracking. No selling or renting of personal information. No automated decisions about your eligibility for services, pricing, or engagement terms. Inquiry information is processed only by Material Signal and the service providers described in this notice, except where disclosure is required by law.
Your choices
You can decline product analytics on the banner or clear the stored choice at any time, and you can ask what is held about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted by emailing scott@materialsignal.co. Depending on where you live — the EEA, the UK, and several US states among them — some of those are rights rather than requests. The response is the same either way, and no account is required to ask.
Given how little is collected, the main record Material Signal usually holds about an inquiry is the email thread. Deleting that thread removes the inquiry content held directly by Material Signal; service providers may retain technical or delivery records under their own policies.
Changes
This notice changes when the site’s behavior changes. The date at the top is when it was last updated. This site is operated from the United States; using it means your information is processed there.
